Tired of taking the family to Disneyland for vacation? Then why not try an Alaska cruise? They offer beautiful scenery, cruise luxury and Alaskan adventure for those who want it.

But not all Alaska cruise trips are alike. You first need to decide what you want on your cruise. If you like to be pampered in the lap of luxury then you’ll want to take advantage of one of the many Alaska luxury cruises. Here you can relax in the spa, have a wonderful massage and enjoy all the amenities of a first class resort. You will dine on the best foods, available at almost any hour. Just like most cruises, Alaska cruises are the ultimate in pampering guests.

Alaska cruises have something for everyone in the family. Along with the usual cruise amenities of pools, games, exercise, meeting new people and fun, Alaska cruises offer interesting scenery you won’t find at home. On your cruise, not only will you’ll be amazed by majestic glaciers but you might spot brown bears, eagles, humpback whales or sea lions.

If you want adventure, there are many cruise packages that can satisfy your needs as well as offer typical cruise amenities.

One popular Alaskan adventure is sea kayaking. You can pick from tours in choppy waters or, for the more tame at heart, a calmer course is offered. Sea kayaking gives you an opportunity to get outdoors and see a lot of the coastline which is abundant with local wildlife.

Hiking is another popular excursion that you can try once your cruise ship docs. You can choose from any number of guided hikes using different trails and going out for different lengths of time. It’s a great chance to get out in the wilderness and experience nature Alaska style. If this isn’t enough for you, you can even work in some rock climbing while you are off ship.

The best time to take an Alaska cruise is in the summer where you will be able to enjoy Alaska in fairly mild weather. There are 2 basic paths that cruises take one goes throught the inside passage which visits Alaskan panhandle ports and the other through the Gulf of Alaska visiting more glaciers and northern points. Be sure that you check the weather and pack accordingly!

The Alaska cruise is a major attraction drawing vacationers with its majestic scenery, gleaming glaciers, exotic wildlife, and Native American culture. Ships are normally on a seven-day excursion package to Alaska and they stop at four ports on their passage, visiting Hubbard Glacier or Glacier Bay National Park. You may like to opt for an extended cruise-tour comprehensive package where you go by train around Alaska and it includes lodging and seeing the sights in Denali National Park.

Due to weather hindrances, cruises to Alaska are strictly restricted during the summer months from early May to Mid Sept. June, July and August are the peak seasons when the average daily temperatures reach up to 75 degrees Fahrenheit. The best time to sail is May and September as temperatures soar around 50 degrees. Luxury vessels and midsize ships sail from Vancouver, BC and Seattle. At both embarkment and disembarkment points, you are able to visit the ports of Juneau, Ketchikan and Skagway.

The wonder world of Alaska is waiting for you. The mountains, waterfalls, the humpback whales and frolicking sea lions, the breathtaking forests, wildlife and the snowcapped mountains-is all there for you. Alaska is fascinating, explorative and full of new discoveries. Each new day ushers in new surprises. Alaska is the most memorable place on the earth. You see the breathtaking view of Mt. McKinley as it rises grandly over Denali National Park. Imagine yourself bird watching, hiking through the glacier waterfalls outside Juneau and sea kayak on the Tongass National Park harbor.

Alaska is a place full of adventures with its one hundred thousand glaciers and 3 million lakes. To enjoy the Alaska experience your first option should be a Gulf of Alaska cruise tour, along with Voyage of the Glaciers cruise with an option of land tours. You won’t soon forget the Freestyle Cruising Alaska offers.

Experience the early frontier existence from America’s oldest Russian Orthodox Church in the San Diego’s Gaslamp District, and the vineries of Santa Barbara. You will enjoy a trolley car ride to Chinatown or Fisherman’s Wharf. As your ship sails through Glacier Bay, you experience nature to the fullest.

Disney Cruise Lines is expanding its intinerary in 2011 when it sails to Alaska. Disney will kick off the Alaska sailings in 2011 aboard the 2,400-passenger Disney Wonder, which will operate out of Vancouver, B.C. The ship will offer seven-night roundtrip voyages that stop in the Alaskan port towns of Juneau, Ketchikan and Skagway and visit scenic Tracy Arm.

While Carnival makes plans to pull more ships out of Alaska due to growing fees, taxes and regulations imposed on cruise companies by the state, Disney is going to venture into Alaska to help expand its fairly limited itineraries.

The Disney Wonder’s visit to Alaska is a first for Disney. The ship typically travels in warm climates so it will require a few upgrades to handle the different weather. However, with the amazing views and places to visit in Alaska, it should be worth the wait til 2011 for many who want to cruise on the Disney Wonder.

Disney Cruise Line President Karl Holz made the announcement at an event in Anaheim, California.

“Our guests have longed to explore the wild, natural beauty of Alaska with Disney Cruise Line,” Holz says in a statement. “With this itinerary, families will enjoy all the outdoor adventures Alaska has to offer.”

The first-ever Disney cruise to Alaska will depart on May 3, 2011 with the last cruise of the season scheduled for Aug. 30, 2001. Rates for the seven-night Alaskan itinerary start at $939 per person for a standard inside stateroom, based on double occupancy.

Disney also announced the addition of the Outlook Cafe, which will be atop the Disney Wonder during a dry dock in October. Located on deck 10 of the cruise ship, the 2,500-square-foot indoor lounge will offer a place for passengers to watch for wildlife such as whales as the ship sails along Alaska’s scenic Inside Passage. The venue will have floor-to-ceiling, curved glass windows.

Guest will be able to book Disney Wonder’s itinerary for Alaska for the Disney Cruise Line’s 2011 season beginning Sept. 28, 2009.

Alaska is a really unique and beautiful place and taking an Alaska cruise will provide you with an experience like none other. Alaska is by far the biggest state by territory yet it has the smallest population of any state in the U.S.. This is perhaps why many people consider this to the be the last great frontier in America. Most people are drawn to the environment of mystery and challenge. An Alaskan cruise may be just what you are looking for whether you want to whale watch, fish, or just relax.

If you’d rather eat your wildlife than photograph it, an Alaska fishing cruise may be for you. Alaska is know for great fishing. Salmon and halibut are abundant. You might even discover a cruise line which allows you to throw a fishing line over the side during a trip. There are so many cruise packages from which to choose. These packages range from budget conscious to extravagant. During an Alaska cruise, you will experience amazing scenery and astonishing wildlife.

The Alaskan waters boast to contain the largest concentrated population of humpback whales anywhere. Traveling to Alaska will allow you to observe this beautiful scenery. So many individuals take their Alaska cruise vacation not quite knowing exactly what to expect. They will view the natural interaction of wildlife as it has remained since the dawn of time. What they will discover is natures beautiful surroundings and the natural interaction of animals in their surrounding natural environment, which is largely undisturbed by humans or contemporary technology.

If you are not really interested in whales, you will find a splendid variety of animals and birds. A wildlife viewing cruise will allow you to see a beautiful diversity of plants and species. Be prepared for an up close view of bears and mountain goats. What you will discover is your Alaska cruise will provide you with an amazing cross section of scenery and wildlife and an equally extensive variety of ways to enjoy them.

For persons interested in a more intense visit, you should seek a cruise to match your energy level. The more tranquil traveler will find many vacation package options that provide optimum exposure to the peaceful qualities the Alaska coastline has to offer. All this takes is a little bit of research on which vacation package to choose. No matter what type of visit you seek, you can find it on your Alaska Cruise.

Alaskan cruises are very popular, but why? Looking at the other choices, sometimes it may not appear to make sense. With a myriad of options in the Caribbean and Mexico, the partygoing, sun-sand-and-beaches type of cruises are aplenty. If you want to check out the old world, there are a ton of European cruises too, and for those looking to depart from Western culture, many Asian cruises have now popped up too.

So why Alaska then? Well, Alaska offers perhaps the most unique destination in my opinion, and here’s why.

History – You may or may not know that Alaska, even though it’s the 49th state, did not always belong to the United States. It was formerly a part of Russia, with Sitka where the Russian culture was centered. Many cruises call at Sitka, and you can still see plenty of Russian-era remnants, which can be just the coolest thing!

Culture – In addition to the aforementioned Russian culture in Sitka, there are many other cultures to be found in Alaska. While Sitka is pretty interesting by itself, native establishments in Alaska are even cooler. The chance to check out native cultures and how they’ve evolved in a different direction is very humbling.

Landscapes – Alaska has extremely varied and wonderful landscapes. When you start in Seattle or Vancouver, you’ll see the coastline get rockier and rockier, and taller and taller, and eventually turn into beautiful snow-capped mountains. You’ll see majestic fjords, amazing flora and fauna unique to the region, with an area where there’s a flower that blooms for just one day in the year. There are places where there is 24-hour daylight too!

Wildlife – Alaska has amazing wildlife, and for me, this reason alone is big enough to hit up Alaska. Sea lions, otters, whales, killer whales, brown bears, grizzly bears, sea eagles, moose and polar bears are just some of the things you’ll see. Sometimes you’ll see bears fishing for salmon and trout from your balcony, and sometimes you’ll see them lazing around on the hills of the fjords, but you’ll love your first sight of beluga whales… trust me!

That Most Special of Phenomena – The Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis. Alaska is one of the few places you’ll be able to see this strange, still not fully-understood phenomenon.

Alaska is a popular cruise destination simply for the uniqueness that it offers, so you’ll find many huge cruise lines sending their ships there on a regular basis. Here are the larger cruise lines:

Royal Caribbean – They depart from a number of coastal cities including Seattle and Vancouver, and you can choose from three different ships – Radiance of the Seas, Rhapsody of the Seas and Serenade of the Seas. All of the trips are around a week and you can choose from routes that include a port of call at Icy Strait Point.

Celebrity Cruises – As with many other lines, Seattle and Vancouver are main starting points for the Alaska cruises, and you can choose from three different ships. More in-depth information here.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises – Regent uses the wonderful Seven Seas Mariner ship, which is not as big as the ships suffering from gigantism, but is far more charming. It has balconies for all the rooms, and just looks fantastic – it feels like you’re on a luxury cruise. Regent has less departures than the other big guys, but if you can score a good price, it’s more personalized and unique. The cruises leave from Vancouver, often named the best city in the world.

Princess – Most of Princess’ cruises, and there are a lot of them with seven ships, will cruise along the Inside Passage, the most common route with Alaska cruises. Just because it’s common though, doesn’t mean that it’s not interesting. You’ll get to see glaciers, sea lions, otters, whales, sea eagles, bears and a whole lot more!

Holland America – With no less than eight ships, Holland America offers up a ton of options for the Alaska cruiser. Most of them follow the Inside Passage route, but there are a couple of very unique routes offered, as well as some interesting excursions. More information here.

Norwegian Cruise Line – NCL ships start from Vancouver and you’re offered a choice on one of three ships. All routes use the Inside Passage routes, but some nice excursions will offer some exclusivity.

You may never have heard of Skagway, but I’ll bet you have heard of the gold rush. Skagway is where the gold rush was formerly centered, so it’s easy to see how the population has dropped from 20,000 residents to less than 1000 today.

Skagway is a great place to check out it’s wacky history, which resembled a town in the old west, with saloons, brothels – the whole nine yards. One of the best things though, is that there is still a lot of gold there! A lot of tourists will actually come try their luck at finding gold, and it’s not impossible to find some. While some people walk away with nuggets worth $20,000, others will find small pebbles that they keep as a souvenir, so this is a worthwhile excursion if you can try it.

Juneau is Alaska’s capital city, and is a fairly small city by most American standards with only 30,000 people. It’s also the only state in the United States that is not accessible by road vehicles. However, you don’t come to Juneau to go to the top of a tall building or check out the entertainment industry, you come here to see nature and even natural history. That’s possible because Juneau is close to the Mendenhall Glacier, the kind of thing that Alaska is famous for. Remember that glaciers are the things that helped shape North American landscape, so it’s a great experience to be able to see them today.
